Roots
Roots
Through the medium of black and white, subjects come to life without any distraction, on their own terms. Shadows sharpen. Textures breathe. Black and white photography doesn't strip an image down but distills it, leaving only what matters most.
That’s the reason why I like to work in black and white, so as to go back to the « roots »; for working in monochrome has the ability to convey mood and inspire creativity of this universal language.
Photography began in black and white. Although that was not so long ago, it was still aeons away from the new «digital era», which becomes ever more without limits.
I have derived so much inspiration from countless artists, painters and photographers of today and of the past. So many that I cannot list them all, nor can I make any short summary of what they have taught me.
Probably the biggest challenge is not to be afraid; not to fear wending one's own path; believing in one's inner motivation, setting one’s own bearings, and cherishing one's own sensibility. Thus to share a personal vision of the inestimable beauty of this Earth which we all share. Thus, when words are insufficient, I may express my concerns through this wonderful medium that is photography. Thus, to write with light my best stories incarnated in the purest raw and timeless interpretation.
